'Appy Kennel & Creche
Loved ones we've lost along the wayAt 'Appy Kennels we have many special boarders and each and every one of them become like part of the family. When they leave through heaven's doggy door we feel it too. Here is our tribute to those special souls who we have had the pleasure to know.

Duchess Bleakley
CD CDX AD ET
Duchess was the fastest dog I ever owned and the reason I started obedience. She was either a dot speeding off in to the distance or up to her neck in the river, and all this when it was time to go home! She loved agility and had been known to run the course before the whistle blew much to the spectators amusement, again and again and again and heaven help me if she knew the steward as she would do bog laps of excitement around the ring!! It was impossible not to share her joy and excitement. She was an escape artist too and on many occassions we had to squeeze through gates so she couldn't escape. Duchess was the apple of Cruise's life and when she left us he took about 6 months to accept she was not with us anymore. This made it very difficult to take him for walks as he spent his whole time looking for her! Good times. I love her and miss her dearly.
Cruise Bleakley
Cruise was a joy in my life, from the day I took him home all he wanted was to please me and to be pampered. He loved showing off as demo boy at the obedience classes I took. He felt it was his duty to tell me when customers arrived at the kennel, he also had great fun teasing some of the day care kids as they arrived, especially Shep and O'Rielly. I loved my little boy Cruise, he will be in my heart forever. Cruise had such character and he loved to talk and play with his mate Sophie. We will miss you dearly Cruise.
Zak Davenport
Beautiful Zak was a pleasure to know. His favourite place in the world was the Estuary at Dawesville (where the Davenport's have lovingly scattered his ashes) and his second favourite was 'Appy Kennels - at least we like to think so! He would bound out to the compounds for playtime and bound right back in to his kennel for breakfast or dinner and a snooze. He loved to lounge under the shade of trees and always had a welcome smile and wag of his tail for anyone who said hello. We'll miss you Zak.
Roxanne (Roxy) Lindsay
All dogs have different barks. High pitched, deep down belly barks, yelps, woofs etc but sweet beautiful Roxy...she was one in a million! My goodness she gave us such a fright when she first arrived. We were going about our business of putting the dogs in their compounds for morning play time and cleaning the kennels when we heard a noise that can only be described as like a cow giving birth. We went out to check and there was Roxy, head back, barking to the sky sounding just like a cow in labour!!! Thank you for bringing us such joy and a memory we will treasure for always.
Zac Dowd
How gorgeous is Zac on his mum and dad's bed? That's exactly how he looked when he came in from playtime and lounged on his hammock bed, only when he was with us the bed was all his and he didn't have to wait for his dad to get up to take his spot! All Linda or Mike had to say to Zac was 'holiday' and he was off getting his gear together to come and see us. We will miss him very much. Thanks for being such a beautiful boy Zac.
Phoenix George
A regular at Doggy Day Care since 6 months old Phoenix was always the first one there and had many friends, who would look for him as soon as they arrived, once they found the compound he was in they'd get to door with us trailing behind eagerly waiting for playtime to begin. After Doggy Day Care his mum says that he always gave a really big sigh when he got home as if to say 'that was a really good day' and if he didn't do it, she would and Phoenix would follow suit. When she left for work the day after he would be in exactly the same spot as she'd left him when she got home. If Phoenix thought he was going to miss his day care day his mum would nearly have to pick his bottom lip off the ground for his sulking! There will be a lot of people and dogs mourning the passing of Phoenix due to Leukaemia at the tender age of 3, a sad day for all. We will miss your graceful presence and gentle nature Phoenix. We will love you forever.Jasper Stephenson
In February 09 we lost a very sweet soul. Jasper was such a kind little dog who never said very much. He loved to be with the quiet kids in the compounds and he loved his cuddles and his food. You wouldn't know it to look at him but what a jetsetter he was! He's a world traveller having been to many places in Australia and Ireland too! His family adopted a new friend Heather and he spent his last year happy with his new mate. We will miss you very much Jasper.Morgan JacobsAnother young life has been lost to us this week. Morgan has been a frequent visitor to 'Appy Kennels since he was a pup. He even attended class with young Lockette! He was boisterous, loveable, fun, happy and a teeny bit cheeky! As like so many things in life, we never know what's around the corner and we are all shocked and saddened by the news of Morgan's passing. He had a seizure and never recovered. He was only 3 years old. Our hearts go out to the Jacobs'. We will never forget our mate Morgan.Ramoth Breebaart
Gorgeous little Ramoth was lost to us a few months ago. She came to stay at the kennels with her house buddy Sooty and she was the life of the party!! She knew exactly when it was time to play and would dance circles in front of you on the way out to the compound. She would follow us up and down while we were cleaning or putting down food, we think it was her way of encouraging us to move just that little bit faster! She didn't mind her bath either lavishing Robyn with lots of kisses (which is her favourite part). You were a little socialite Ramoth and we will miss your vivacious spirit and zest for life. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your world.Sooty Breebaart
The second of the gorgeous little munchkins, Sooty is now with his mate Ramoth. Sooty had a quiet calm about him. While Ramoth was bouncing around in front of us, Sooty was walking beside us. While Sooty was tearing up and down the compound, Ramoth was watching quietly from his vantage point in the sun. That's not to say he wasn't cheeky. He had a rather long relationship with Robyn's leg (who was frequently on the ground of the compound and apparently just the right height!). He was a fashion icon at the kennel being the first to wear one of our jackets like an off the shoulder number. And he was also the first one in any open kennel door looking for left over food! We had some very good times with little Sooty, as we know Evie did too. Our thoughts are with you as you mourn the loss of the loves of your life.Rusty Walsh
A few weeks ago we lost another of our old souls. Rusty had been coming to stay with us for a few years and he always got to stay with Judith's kids because as much as he wanted to play, he just couldn't handle the excitement! He had the greatest bark. It came from deep in his belly and was a little...rusty hehe but it always came from a happy place. Another of Robyn's regulars for a bath he had a fluffy coat and flaky skin but after his bath he'd shake all the way down to the tip of his tail, even getting on his tiptoes to finish it off! Our deepest sympathy to the Walsh Family for the loss of their friend. Rest In Peace Rusty our great old friend. We'll miss you.
Nic Avery
This week we lost one of our very favourite kids. Lil Nic was the absolute life of the party. His cousin was Rusty who passed not long ago and I'm sure he would say that Nic was a comforting and friendly soul who welcomed all the new kids to playtime. Even the nervous ones weren't immune to his charms. He'd show them the ropes and make sure they were ok. He acted about 2 years old but was in fact about 16. He was a ladies man too and stuck to his favoured girls like glue! He partied so hard in the compounds that he crashed when it was rest time, the pic says it all! Our sympathy goes out to the Avery family. We'll never forget our mate Nic.
Henrietta Finch
Received some very sad news this week. Sweet Henrietta was rushed to emergency on Christmas Day and is now in doggy heaven. Henrietta used to live around the corner from Jude and would often join Jude's beautiful kids, Cruise, Duchess, Sophie & Dolby on walks around Sentenial Park Oval in Wilson. They were reunited again after Jude moved from the 'house around the corner', when she purchased a kennel property and Henrietta was able to join her walking buddies again. It's sad to learn that she's gone but I have many very happy memories to carry with me always. Our deepest sympathy to the Finch family. My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand. The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days. But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a 'doggy-door'
